Making Our New Facility Green |
|
|
|
Project Angel Heart has pursued, to the greatest extent possible, greening efforts, energy efficiency, and sustainable design in our new facility. These include:
- A new roof on the building which meets LEED standards for solar reflectance index (SRI)
- A bike rack and shower available for staff, volunteers, and guests
- Low-irrigation native plants, quality controlled storm water design, and permeable pavers that allow storm water filtration and decreased use of asphalt
- Low-flow plumbing
- Energy efficient and lower-emissions HVAC systems
- Photovoltaic solar power to cover part of the building’s energy needs—provided pro bono by Namaste Solar
- Kitchen garden to provide a small fraction of the food we use in our clients’ meals and snacks for our volunteers
- Recycling and composting
- Maximum use of natural light and fresh air
- Cooperation with Xcel’s energy efficiency program to identify/confirm that we are using the most energy efficient products
- Use (to the greatest extent possible) of low-emitting adhesives, sealants, paints, and flooring
- Choice of a site close to bus lines, residential areas, and basic services
