El Pomar Foundation Award for Excellence

At a gala awards banquet held on Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, El Pomar Foundation recognized Project Angel Heart as the 2002 Most Outstanding Colorado Nonprofit Organization. The Julie and Spencer Penrose Award, named for the founders El Pomar Foundation, is presented annually to the nonprofit organization that best exemplifies commitment to serving the residents of Colorado by enhancing the quality of life for its constituents. It is the highest honor the Selection Commission of El Pomar Foundation can bestow.

ãAmong all of the outstanding nonprofits recognized for excellence by El Pomar Foundation every year,ä announced William J. Hybl, Chairman and CEO of El Pomar, ãthere is always one that stands above all the others.ä Project Angel Heart received $25,000 along with the Julie and Spencer Penrose Award.

ãWe are thrilled and honored to have received this award,ä said Patrick Flaherty, Project Angel Heart Executive Director. ãIt is a tribute to the commitment, dedication, and service of our staff, volunteers, and supporters.ä

El Pomar is one of the largest private foundations in the Rocky Mountain West with assets totaling more than $450 million. Each year, El Pomar contributes approximately $20 million through direct grants and operating programs to support Colorado nonprofit organizations involved in the arts and humanities, health, education, civic and community issues, and human services. El Pomar Foundation was founded by Spencer and Julie Penrose in 1937.
