Our New Home and Open House |
Wondering about the “radio silence” on this blog for the past couple of months? We’ve been so busy getting settled into our gorgeous new home that it’s been hard to keep up!
Now that we’re finally getting all of the kinks worked out (strange noises eliminated, new procedures in place, locating all the light switches and installing office signage), it’s time to celebrate our new 30,000-square-foot home and the opportunities for growth that it provides. We’ll be hosting a community open house for our friends, neighbors and supporters on April 10th.
If you haven’t had a chance to check out our new facility, please plan to attend. You’re invited to stop by anytime between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10th, to see our new digs, meet our staff and be part of the celebration. Tours and refreshments will be available.
We’re so grateful to everyone who made our move to 4950 Washington Street a reality. When you visit, you’ll find these generous supporters recognized in unique ways throughout the building. We’re also grateful to our friends at C & D Builders, sponsors of the Community Open House event, for making it possible for us to open our doors to our neighbors and friends.
Laurie McCaw, Manager of Business and Community Development for C&D Builders, explained that helping us celebrate our recent move was a fun and easy way to support Project Angel Heart’s mission. “C&D Builders is proud to sponsor Project Angel Heart’s Community Open House event,” said McCaw. “As a company, we value the great work of local nonprofits that help our community members in need. We share the excitement that this new facility will allow Project Angel Heart to provide nutritious, no-cost meals to a growing number of people coping with life-threatening illnesses in our community.”
We’re so glad to have the support of C & D Builders, a company that provides a number of valuable services such as facility maintenance, energy audits and renovation projects to nonprofit organizations in our community. To learn more about them, visit www.cd-builders.com.
As excited as we are about our new building and upcoming celebrations, our focus remains on our life-saving daily work. Our clients count on us, just as we count on our community for support. Day after day, you’ll find our amazing volunteers and kitchen staff stirring soup, chopping veggies and dishing up meals. Our administrative staff and volunteers will be busy answering phones, checking in on clients, connecting with compassionate community members who want to support our programs and preparing for upcoming events. On Saturdays, you’ll find more than 100 volunteer vehicles on the roads, delivering meals to grateful clients. The work goes on because our clients need us!
Thank you for all you do to support Project Angel Heart, whether you’re a volunteer, a donor, a corporate partner or an advocate. You are making a difference in the lives of people who rely on our “meals with love” to help them through another day. |

Dec 1: Season to Share |
December 1, 2011: In this season of giving thanks, it is easy to rattle off a list of what I am thankful for, including many things I take for granted all too often: family I can count on; my health; nutritious food.
I recognize my rare good fortune in that I have never in my life worried about where my next meal would come from. Moreover, I have never lay on my couch, too weak or fatigued or nauseated from a debilitating illness to go to the fridge for something to eat, only to find that it’s empty. I have never been in that moment and then realized I don’t have the energy to get to the grocery store, nor do I have the money with which to buy groceries — unless I’d perhaps be willing to sacrifice having a place to live, buying my medications, or keeping my heat on.
Like many of you reading this, I imagine, this is not my reality. This is exactly why I believe that it is my moral imperative to help provide for those who are not capable of providing for themselves.
The Denver Post Charities’ Season To Share campaign makes it possible for thousands of donors — who, like me, want to do something to change the brutal realities that have become so commonplace for too many members of our community — to contribute in a meaningful way. At Project Angel Heart, we are providing home-delivered, nutritious meals to nearly 800 people every week. The people we serve are fighting for their lives against a life-threatening illness and often have nowhere else to turn. Thanks to our thousands of volunteers and loyal community donors, Project Angel Heart is, in essence, delivering food as medicine. Denver Post Charities’ Season To Share campaign recognizes this work and also generously supports our mission. Without the Season To Share campaign, many of the clients we serve would still be hungry. Fighting for their lives, sick, and hungry.
When you stop to give thanks this holiday season, if health or nutritious food are on your list, I invite you to join me in doing something…anything…so that more people in our community can count those items on their lists. |

Nov 23: Thank You |
November 23, 2011: From a one-hundred dollar bill from someone living in poverty to a $500,000 contribution, Project Angel Heart’s community of volunteers and donors are coming together to make our future home possible.
Our community is coming together because we care. We don’t think that someone fighting for their life against a life-threatening disease should have to do so on an empty stomach. And we believe that every person should have access to nutritious meals, especially those who lack the basic energy to prepare those meals themselves. The brutal reality for many who receive Project Angel Heart’s home-delivered meals is that they lack the financial means, in addition to the energy and ability, to provide nutritious meals for themselves. And these nutritious meals are essential in helping those we serve regain their health, or sometimes, just live with a little dignity during their last weeks or months.
Fortunately for those we serve, Project Angel Heart’s corps of generous volunteers and donors are tireless, steadfast and dedicated. And these supporters are leading the way to Project Angel Heart’s future. Every hour of time and every dollar donated makes an impact at Project Angel Heart. Together, we are making Project Angel Heart’s future home possible. And in Project Angel Heart’s future home, we will get right to work preparing nutritious meals for increasing numbers of our community members who have nowhere else to turn for nutritious meals.
Thank you for your work, your financial support, and most of all the impact that you are making through your partnership in Project Angel Heart’s mission. |
