Denver-based Agency Honored at 26th Annual Top Company Awards

DENVER (Sept. 12, 2013) – Project Angel Heart, a nonprofit organization that prepares and delivers nutritious meals to ailing women, men and children in the Denver metro area and Colorado Springs, is pleased to announce that the agency has been named Top Company of the Year in the NonProfit Category by ColoradoBiz Magazine.

The 26th Annual Top Company Awards took place at The Seawell Grand Ballroom at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts on September 11th. The Top Company of the Year Award was developed in 1986 to recognize companies that demonstrate exceptional achievements and performance. Nominees are judged on three criteria: financial performance, community involvement and outstanding achievement in areas such as product innovation, operational excellence or marketing effectiveness.

Project Angel Heart was selected, in part, for the successful completion of a $7.1 million capital campaign and subsequent move to a larger home in Denver’s Globeville neighborhood, as well as the depth of support the organization receives from local donors and volunteers.

Project Angel Heart’s goal for 2013 is to deliver at least 485,000 nutritious meals, at no cost, to 2,200 people in the metro area and Colorado Springs, and the agency has plans to increase this number by 30 percent over the next three years.

“We are extremely honored to be recognized with this award from ColoradoBiz Magazine,” said Erin Pulling, President & CEO for Project Angel Heart. “Ours is not a small feat and it takes dedication from our family of volunteers, tireless support from the community and important partnerships with businesses that are willing to help us reach our daily mission of getting meals out the door and delivered to those who need them most.”

Project Angel Heart, who was also named “Large Nonprofit Organization of the Year” in 2012 by the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, is extremely grateful to all of the agency’s supporters, sustaining donors and the group of dedicated volunteers who contributed more than 57,000 hours of their time last year.

12th Annual Event to be held November 8, 2012

Attendees are invited to feast on scrumptious appetizers, entrees and desserts from some of the city's most popular restaurants and caterers (including Twelve, Pinche Taqueria and Linger, all recently honored on 5280's list of top 25 restaurants) while enjoying complimentary wine, cocktails and mixed drinks as they mix, mingle and bid for a cause.

'Pie in the Sky' pie sale expected to raise funds for 10,000 nutritious meals in 2012

DENVER (Oct. 20, 2012) – There's an easy way for Coloradans to sweeten the life of neighbors fighting cancer, kidney failure, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses this Thanksgiving.  Project Angel Heart, a Denver-based nonprofit organization that prepares and delivers nutritious meals to ailing women, men and children in the Denver metro area and Colorado Springs, is selling holiday pies to benefit their home-delivered meal program.

The Pie in the Sky pie sale offers residents of the Denver metro area and Colorado Springs the opportunity to purchase scrumptious seasonal pies online for just $25 each ($20 is tax deductible). With each pie that is purchased, Project Angel Heart will prepare and deliver five nutritious meals to a Coloradan in need. Purchasers can pick up their pies at one of 13 pick-up locations on Nov. 20 (Denver) or Nov. 21 (Colorado Springs).

"Pie in the Sky is a simple—and delicious—way to support neighbors in need this year," said Erin Pulling, executive director at Project Angel Heart. "And because all pies have been generously donated by Bluepoint Bakery, each pie sold will make a tremendous difference for our organization and for the clients we serve."

Thanks to Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, the presenting sponsor of this year's 'Pie in the Sky' pie sale, current Project Angel Heart clients will also receive holiday pies to enjoy and share with family and friends.

"In addition to our support for this worthwhile cause, we want to reach out to those in our community who are struggling with illness this Thanksgiving," said Amy Venturi, director of social investment for Anadarko.  "At Anadarko, we are grateful to be part of the community and we want to give back in a way that shares the holiday spirit and makes people smile."

Bluepoint Bakery, a wholesale gourmet bakery located in Denver, has once again teamed up with Project Angel Heart to make this event possible. Bluepoint Bakery makes a full line of products, including gourmet pies, with an emphasis on quality and natural ingredients.

With the support of the community, Project Angel Heart hopes to sell 2,000 pies by Nov. 15, which will provide 10,000 meals to Project Angel Heart clients. For more details about Pie in the Sky, visit

DENVER (July 18, 2012) – Local and nationally recognized artists will donate more than 150 artistic creations to this year’s Art for Life event, hosted by Project Angel Heart on Friday, August 24 from 6 -10 p.m. at Abend Gallery, located at 2260 E Colfax Ave. The Art for Life fine art auction will benefit the agency’s home-delivery meal program, which serves nutritious meals, free of charge, to men, women and children living with life-threatening illnesses.

The vibrant works of art donated by participating artists bring passion and benevolence to this annual event. “I have friends who have been recipients of meals from Project Angel Heart, so it’s a cause that is near and dear to my heart,” said John K. Harrell, Denver artist and Art for Life participant. “I paint. Art is my life. I’m happy to share my art to help give others life, just like the event title says.”

The artist line-up includes Dan Beck, Phil Bender, Gordon Brown, Daniel Sprick, Kim English, Michael Gadlin, John K Harrell, Ron Hicks, Quang Ho, Kit Karbler, Mark Lunning, Sandra Pratt, Robert Spooner, Bill Starke, and Ken Valastro. The event will also showcase artwork from emerging artists at Denver School of the Arts and Art Students League of Denver, juried by a panel of local artists.

Thanks to Community Support on Dining Out for Life® Day in 2012

Denver/Boulder, Colo.– A loyal community of 90,000 diners across the Denver metro and Boulder area supported Project Angel Heart’s 18th annual Dining Out for Life® event by dining at participating restaurants, raising $330,000 for the local non-profit. Over 300 restaurants donated 25% of the day’s food sales, along with diners making generous, individual contributions to Project Angel Heart. Those donations will fund the agency’s home-delivery meal program, which serves men, women and children coping with life-threatening illness, free of charge.

“Every single year, we are blown away by the contributions made through the restaurant community and individuals who support us by Dining Out for Life” said Erin Pulling, Executive Director for Project Angel Heart.

Funds raised through Dining Out for Life will help Project Angel Heart prepare and deliver at least 445,000 nutritious meals, at no cost, to 1,950 people in the Metro area and Colorado Springs this year. The agency, who was just named “Large Nonprofit Organization of the Year” by the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, is extremely grateful to all Dining Out for Life supporters and the group of dedicated volunteers who contributed more than 55,000 hours last year, and sustaining donors whose helped Project Angel Heart’s reach their Capital Campaign goal of 7.1 million in 2011.

“Dining Out for Life could not continue to be as successful as it is without the support we receive from our extended family,” said Pulling. “That family consists of our dedicated volunteers and donors along with the individuals and businesses who donate the time and funds to make Project Angel Heart's essential, and often life-saving, home-delivered meals possible.”

For those who were not able to participate in Dining Out for Life but have the desire to support the agency, please consider making an online contribution at 92 cents of every dollar donated to the agency goes directly to the home-delivery meal program.
