Project Angel Heart receives the Karen Hornbostle Community Champion Award Print E-mail

The Denver Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has awarded Project Angel Heart the Karen Hornbostle Community Champion Award for providing nutritious and medically appropriate meals, at no cost, to those battling breast cancer. This recognition is awarded annually to an organization that embodies the spirit of Karen Hornbostel, a breast cancer advocate, survivor, athlete and fighter, who lost her battle to the disease in 2006.

At Project Angel Heart, the Karen Hornbostle Community Champion Award from Komen for the Cure will support the home‐delivered meal program, which provides weekly nutritious meals to approximately 108 breast cancer clients and their dependants, for as long as they are in need. Each Project Angel Heart meal is planned by a team of professional chefs and prepared with the help of hundreds of volunteers. Meals are then home‐delivered to each client, free of charge, by volunteers.

“The impact of breast cancer can be so uncertain. Thanks to the support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, we can continue to deliver consistent, life‐sustaining nutrition and improve the quality of life of those coping with breast cancer,” said Erin Pulling, Executive Director at Project Angel Heart.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest breast cancer organization, and the Denver Affiliate is one of 125 Affiliates on the front lines dedicated to ending breast cancer in their communities. Komen Affiliates fund innovative programs that help women and men overcome the cultural, social, educational and financial barriers to breast cancer screening and treatment. “Project Angel Heart will provide nutritious meals at no cost to clients with breast cancer, and the Komen Denver Affiliate is proud to work in partnership with them,” said Michele Ostrander,
