Community Service Program
Project Angel Heart welcomes volunteers who are required to complete community service for academic, court-mandated, or other social programs. We value the experience of all of our volunteers, and strive to meet each of our volunteers’ needs.
How Do I Begin?
We respectfully require that court-mandated Community Service Volunteer candidates schedule an interview with Angela Barone, Data & Resource Assistant. All court-related documentation, as well as your needs will be discussed and collected at this time.
Community Service Volunteers who have been approved to complete volunteer service at Project Angel Heart must be willing to review and sign a Community Service Agreement, complete and submit a Volunteer Application, and attend Volunteer Orientation prior to being scheduled for a volunteer shift.
In order to protect our clients, those with violent, theft or fraud-related offenses are not eligible to complete hours with Project Angel Heart.
Opportunities for Community Service Volunteers
Kitchen Assistant You don’t have to know what “béchamel” means to help prepare and package food for clients—anyone who cares about quality food for people living with life-threatening illness already has what it takes! Volunteers in Randy’s Kitchen chop, slice, bag, scoop, stir, blend, bake and—of course—scrub! Kitchen assistant shifts are only available in Denver.
Denver Shifts: Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.; Monday-Thursday 2 - 5 p.m. and 5 - 8 p.m.
* Béchamel is a white sauce made from butter, flour and milk.
Distribution Assistant Every week, distribution assistants solve Project Angel Heart’s meal puzzle when they pack and organize meal bags with five days’ worth of meals. Distribution assistants are essential in getting the right meal, in the right bag, in the right car, and eventually on to the right table. An eye for detail is a must for this job. Denver Shifts: Wednesday and Thursday 12 – 3 p.m.; Saturday 8 – 10:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Colorado Springs Shifts: Saturday 11 a.m. – noon and noon to 1:30 p.m.
Delivery Driver Cruise for a cause when you deliver meals to clients. Delivery drivers pick up meal bags – either at Project Angel Heart or from our seven Metro Denver or two Colorado Springs satellite locations – and deliver them to neighbors who need nutritious meals. Denver Shifts: Saturday 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Colorado Springs Shifts: Saturday 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Satellite Shuttle Driver: Our ten meal distribution satellites are located across the Denver and Colorado Springs Metro areas, making it possible for 100 meal delivery drivers to pick up meal bags close to home and make deliveries close to home, too! Satellite shuttle drivers pack up meals and deliver those meals to a satellite for meal deliver drivers to take to individual clients. Please note you must have an SUV, covered pickup or van to serve as a satellite shuttle driver. Denver Shifts: Saturday noon – 1 p.m. Colorado Springs Shifts: Saturday noon – 1 p.m.
Office Assistant Office assistants provide essential support to staff including, but not limited to, answering phones, data entry, filing, and more. Denver Shifts: Monday – Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
