Volunteer Opportunities for Youth

Project Angel Heart values volunteers of every age group.  In order to provide the best experience for our youth volunteers, please note the specific age requirements below.

All Ages

Bag Decoration

Project Angel Heart clients receive their meals in a brown paper bag. Help bring cheer to their day by decorating delivery bags! This is a great way to introduce young volunteers to the service provided by Project Angel Heart and feel a part of our mission.

Birthday Card Decoration

Project Angel Heart clients receive a birthday card the week of their birthday. Cards are beautifully decorated by volunteers.

For more information about our wonderful bag and birthday card decoration program, please contact Angela Barone, Data & Resource Assistant at 303-830-0202 ext.28 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Ages 14-17

Distribution Assistant
Every week, distribution assistants solve Project Angel Heart’s meal puzzle when they pack and organize meal bags with five days’ worth of meals.  Distribution assistants are essential in getting the right meal, in the right bag, in the right car, and eventually on to the right table.  An eye for detail is a must for this job.
Denver Shifts: Wednesday and Thursday 12 – 3 p.m.; Saturday 8 – 10:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Colorado Springs Shifts: Saturday 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Delivery Driver
Cruise for a cause when you deliver meals to clients. Delivery drivers pick up meal bags – either at Project Angel Heart or from our seven Metro Denver or two Colorado Springs satellite locations – and deliver them to neighbors who need nutritious meals.

Youth meal delivery driver volunteers, and a parent or legal guardian, must attend Volunteer Orientation, complete an interview and successfully pass a background check.  A parent or legal guardian must accompany each youth volunteer during each and every volunteer shift, as well as to the client’s door.

Denver Shifts: Saturday 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Colorado Springs Shifts: Saturday 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Kitchen Assistant - You don’t have to know what “béchamel” means to help prepare and package food for clients—anyone who cares about quality food for people living with life-threatening illness already has what it takes! Volunteers in Randy’s Kitchen chop, slice, bag, scoop, stir, blend, bake and—of course—scrub!
* Béchamel is a white sauce made from butter, flour and milk.

Youth volunteers, and a parent or legal guardian, must attend Volunteer Orientation, complete an interview and a knife skills test.  A parent or legal guardian must accompany each youth volunteer during each and every volunteer shift.
Denver Shifts: Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.; Monday-Thursday 2 - 5 p.m. and 5 - 8 p.m.
