Former Client Now Cancer-Free

We welcomed a very special guest at this year’s Bread & Butter Club Reception: former client Erin P. Last year, Erin shared her story with us about receiving Project Angel Heart meals during her breast cancer treatments. We were thrilled to hear this update from Erin:

“My daughters and I received Project Angel Heart meals for six months last year during my breast cancer treatment. The nutritionally balanced, comforting meals helped me through chemotherapy and radiation, and aided in the healing after my bilateral mastectomy. My doctors and surgeons all commented on how well I tolerated treatment and how well my skin healed after surgery and radiation. I know that the nutrient-dense food that I received from Project Angel Heart contributed greatly to my healing. I am happy to say that I did beat cancer, and today I am cancer-free.

Erin, alongside her family, shares remarks at the Bread & Butter Club Reception

My daughters, Avie and Zoie, are 8 and 11 years old. It has always been extremely important to me to provide healthy meals for them. My husband, Andy, works long hours. We were both concerned that I would not have the energy and feel well enough to cook for the girls during my treatments while he was at work.

We were right. I am so thankful that my friend recommended Project Angel Heart to me and that my husband strongly encouraged me to apply. In retrospect, I don’t know how I would have made it through without the help of the meals.

My girls loved getting the hand-delivered, decorated bags, and also excitedly going through them to see what was inside. It was a bright spot in their week, during a difficult time for our family. Project Angel Heart actually felt like an extension of our family, caring for all of us in our time of need. Avie and Zoie will always remember this experience, and I know it will have an impact on their lives in many ways going forward.

Our family says a simple, heartfelt blessing before dinner every night. We say: ‘Bless this food and all the hands that prepared it. May it nourish and heal our minds, bodies, and spirits.’

When we were receiving the meals, we would also add on ‘and thank you Project Angel Heart!’ to the end of our blessing. I still think of Project Angel Heart each time we say the blessing, because THIS IS what Project Angel Heart does every single day. All of the hands involved, in every single step of the process, help to heal the minds, bodies, and spirits of all those it serves. Project Angel Heart, the volunteers, and all of the supporters are a true blessing to our community.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, each and every one of you, for the support you give to Project Angel Heart. You make the meal deliveries possible—the healing, the comfort, the caring, the hope possible. You are making a tremendous difference in the lives of so many people and also the children that depend on them. My family has been forever changed by this amazing organization, and you all helped to make that possible. Thank you so very much.”
