Volunteer of the Month: October 2019

Congratulations to Marnie Baesler, our volunteer of the month for October 2019! Marnie, a kitchen volunteer, was nominated by sous chef Summer Polson.

“I would like to nominate Marnie Baesler for Volunteer of the Month. Marnie has been a volunteer since April 2015, and is a foundation of the Thursday evening crew!

Marnie is super cool and rides a motorcycle in to volunteer when the weather is nice. She also has a new grandson so having her spend time with us is a gift!

Marnie will fill in at a moment’s notice, oftentimes bringing family members to help if we are short on volunteers – as a matter of fact, her entire family has at some point volunteered in the Project Angel Heart kitchen. I love that we are important enough that Marnie wants to share her experience here with her loved ones.

As mentioned, Marnie works the Thursday evening shift, which is often responsible for scooping up to 128 gallons of soup! Speaking of soup, Marnie is “souper” organized, which is great for counting, labeling, and stacking soups, a much-needed task for the end of the prep week.

And, if that wasn’t enough, Marnie was one of the first people to be responsible for running the automated sealing machine when we made that change, and after a few minutes of using the brand new machine she was like ‘can I make this go faster?'”

As volunteer of the month, Marnie will enjoy a special dinner prepared by Project Angel Heart’s chefs.

Do you know a volunteer that deserves recognition? Did you see someone go the extra mile? Nominate them for Volunteer of the Month! You can nominate someone here or by filling out the paper nomination forms located in the break room in our Denver office.
