Anatomy of a Medically Tailored Meal

Many Project Angel Heart meals have the same basic “anatomy”. Well, there’s a reason for that! Each component provides benefits that are especially important for someone coping with a serious illness:

Carbohydrates provide critical energy! Bodies facing illness are often using lots of extra energy to attack illness, overcome fatigue and other issues, or recover from treatment.

Protein helps prevent the loss of muscle mass that happens when our bodies are using extra energy or going through difficult treatments.

Fat (which usually comes from the olive oil blend we use in cooking) also provides energy, and helps the body absorb certain vitamins. It also helps maintain hormone function, which can be disrupted by illness.

Vegetables provide essential micronutrients that keep all the cells in the body healthy and functioning, from those in our skin to our bones to our internal organs.
