Heart-healthy meals make life easier for grandmother and granddaughter

Hearts of GoldLike many grandparents today, Sally, age 67, is the primary caregiver for a grandchild. Her story is a bit different, though, because Sally has been diagnosed not only with cancer, but also with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and coronary artery disease. She uses oxygen to help control her COPD, a serious lung disease that makes it hard to breathe. She relies on a walker to help her navigate around her home. She’s also partially blind and homebound.

With so many obstacles in her path, shopping for food and preparing meals was simply not possible for Sally. Project Angel Heart began delivering meals to Sally and her granddaughter in 2014. Because Sally has heart disease, the meals we prepare and deliver for her are lower in fat and sodium. Now that she receives meals from Project Angel Heart, Sally reports that she feels less stress about preparing and purchasing food. In addition, she tells us the meals have helped improve her weight and her energy!
