Fran Berry Shares her Ambassador Story

Wondering what it’s like to volunteer as a Dining Out For Life® ambassador? Read about the experience from Fran Berry, a volunteer satellite shuttle driver on Saturdays and ambassador for 10+ years.

Q: How long have you been volunteering as an ambassador?

A: At least 10 years.

Q: What is your favorite part about being an ambassador?

A: Talking with diners about Project Angel Heart.

Q: Tell me about some of the people you’ve met while volunteering as an ambassador.

A: I love meeting folks who just happened to be at the restaurant the night of Dining Out for Life. This allows me the opportunity to tell more of Project Angel Heart’s story. Last year, there were four men from out of town having a business dinner with a local resident. After talking with them about Project Angel Heart and the services we provide, they (jokingly) offered me a job in their advertising department!

Q: Which restaurants have you worked at? Which was the best and why?

A: Original Pancake House, Romano’s, Virgilio’s, YaYa’s Euro Bistro. I loved working at Romano’s. The wait staff is so supportive and the family atmosphere allows for more interaction with the diners. Also, more of my friends came to the restaurant.

Q: Do you volunteer with a friend at Dining Out For Life?

A: Yes, Samantha is my niece and volunteered with me in the past when I was a meal delivery driver. She loves Project Angel Heart and the mission of the organization. I love having a partner [at Dining Out For Life], especially working at larger restaurants. We can check in with each other to ensure we are getting to all diners.
