Gift from SUPERVALU Foundation funds more than 2,200 meals for people in need
DENVER (March 23, 2017) — Thanks to a recent gift to Project Angel Heart, a nonprofit organization operating in Denver and Colorado Springs, the SUPERVALU Foundation is helping improve health outcomes and quality of life for thousands of Coloradans. The foundation’s $20,000 gift to Project Angel Heart will fund more than 2,200 medically tailored meals for people in need.

Medical bills can be financially devastating for people living with chronic, life-threatening conditions like cancer, HIV/AIDS, and kidney disease. Many find themselves having to choose between food and medicine, which can then send them into a cycle of decline. Project Angel Heart’s free, medically tailored meals allow people to focus on their health and, as a result, often lead to better health outcomes. The meals, which are prepared using high-quality ingredients by a team of professional chefs, also remind our clients that there are people in the community who care and want to help.
One of those people is Rachelle, who at age 58 is living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Rachelle receives weekly deliveries of nutritious, ready-to-heat meals designed to meet her specific dietary needs. “I was severely underweight because of my inability to shop for and prepare food,” she said. “The meals have helped me regain some weight. I’m very grateful for your service.”
