A Big Announcement: We’re Expanding to Pueblo County

Expansion extends our service area to 1,350-square miles, allows us to serve more neighbors in need than ever before

We are incredibly excited to announce that starting in February 2022, Project Angel Heart’s program is expanding to Pueblo County! This is the furthest south our program has reached. It means our meals are available along the I-25 corridor from Weld and Boulder counties, through Metro Denver including new parts of Douglas County, into El Paso County and down to Pueblo. This increases our service area to a total of 1,350-square miles!

This is made possible by a truly transformational gift: a one-year $580,000 grant from our friends at Kaiser Permanente. For years now, Kaiser Permanente has partnered with Project Angel Heart to help get meals to thousands of severely ill Coloradans including referring clients, decorating bags, and delivering meals. We are tremendously grateful for their trust and support.

This expansion sets a goal for Project Angel Heart to provide 620,000 medically tailored, home-delivered meals to a total of 4,250 people in 2022.  The expansion also increases the scope of our services to include more comprehensive client care, including nutritional counseling and wellness visits to address health challenges and review nutrition planning for clients’ diagnoses.  Virtual peer support groups will also bring severely ill Coloradans with similar health conditions together to help them feel more empowered and less isolated in their health journey.

We consider this expansion “transformational,” not just for the fundamental changes it brings to our program, but also for the impact we can make in our neighbors’ lives. A 2020 report from the Colorado Health Institute indicates Pueblo County reported the highest rate of food insecurity in the state.  We are excited and grateful to have this opportunity to provide critical nutrition to more people who need it to manage their health and well-being.

In the coming months, we look forward to sharing the stories of lives touched and milestones reached. In the meantime, you can read more about our expansion in this media release.
