Project Angel Heart Receives $10,000 Grant from Cancer League of Colorado
We’re grateful to share that Cancer League of Colorado has awarded Project Angel Heart a $10,000 grant to support our medically tailored, home-delivered meal program. With this funding, we’ll provide meals as well as nutrition education and counseling services for Coloradans living with cancer. In 2025, we expect to prepare and deliver 96,700 meals to 800 clients living with cancer and their dependents.
Proper nutrition is a vital part of care for those living with cancer. Nutritious food isn’t just comforting—it’s essential. It can boost energy, ease side effects, support recovery, and improve quality of life. But eating well during treatment isn’t easy. Cancer and its side effects can make it hard to shop, cook, or even know what to eat. Additionally, many cancer patients face financial strain from treatment costs, which can make access to nutritious meals even harder.
That’s where Project Angel Heart comes in. Our registered dietitians use evidence-based guidelines to medically tailor our meals to each client’s diagnosis and needs. We make adjustments—like omitting strong spices for those with nausea or avoiding certain vegetables that may cause discomfort—while making sure every meal is nourishing, delicious, and made from scratch with fresh ingredients.
As one client shared:
“I am not worried now about having to go to the store to make sure there is something in the house to eat. I am afraid of being exposed to other people’s sickness while I am dealing with cancer. I am also working on dental issues and this food is easy to eat and prepare. The vegetables are terrific, and my energy is not focused on the kitchen and chores, just on resting and healing. You have really helped me in a way I cannot thank you enough for. I have no family and I so appreciate the caring you and the volunteers provide.”
Cancer League of Colorado’s mission is to secure the cure or control of cancer by raising funds to support innovative research and cancer-related services across our state. Since 1969, they’ve been advancing the fight against cancer—and since 2010, they’ve helped Project Angel Heart deliver hope and health to neighbors in need. We’re deeply grateful for their continued partnership and for sharing our belief that Food is Medicine.
