Governor Declares September 15, 2021 “Project Angel Heart 30th Birthday Celebration Day”
You may have noticed that we like celebrating milestones and this year we have a big one: our 30th birthday. When we started planning for ways to recognize this moment, someone asked if this one was a big enough deal. Without question – yes, it’s a big deal!
We are delighted to share that Governor Polis and the State of Colorado agree. The Governor has released a proclamation declaring September 15, 2021 “Project Angel Heart 30th Birthday Celebration Day” across the State. We couldn’t be more honored.
The Governor’s proclamation is a recognition of the thousands of volunteers, staff and supporters who have helped us reach this milestone.
Project Angel Heart was “born” in 1991. That year, AIDS was the number two cause of death for adult men in America and in the top five for women. But as anyone who lived through that time can attest, very few people were paying attention. Our community was formed in the vacuum of care and compassion for people living with a devastating disease and has thrived by staying focused on that mission.
We’ve weathered the dot com boom and bust, the Great Recession and, though we’re still fighting it, COVID. We are serving more meals than ever before and despite everything the world has thrown at us, our clients have never gone hungry. Thirty years and more than 8 million meals later, we are still here.
Thank you to everyone who has helped keep our neighbors in need fed and cared for. We are a community bound together to support our neighbors in need no matter what comes.
Happy 30th birthday! Here’s to many more!
