Kate Johnston, chief operating officer, joined Project Angel Heart in October. Kate came to us from Children’s Hospital’s Breathing Institute, where she helped build and lead community-based efforts to keep children healthy at home. To really get to know Kate, we asked her hard-hitting, rapid-fire questions.
Do you have any pets? I have a 5-year-old dog named Jasper. He’s an unknown mix (maybe Lab/Boxer?), thinks everyone is his new best friend, and only follows the rules he agrees with.
What is your favorite sport/activity to watch? College basketball (go Tarheels!)
What is your favorite sport/activity to play? Hiking and biking
Do you have any broken bones? None! (knock on wood)
What’s the last book that you read? Good Girl, Bad Blood (a young adult thriller)
On a vacation, itinerary or open ended? Both! Some fun plans, plenty of time for naps.
What was the last concert you went to? Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats at Red Rocks
What is your favorite cuisine to make? Does dessert count as a cuisine?
Are there any foods you don’t like? Cauliflower, all melons
Are you right-handed or left-handed? Left-handed
What is your favorite movie? I don’t know that I have a favorite, but if Almost Famous is on the TV, I will always sit down to watch
Are you allergic to anything? Red ants
Beatles or Rolling Stones? Both are so fun, but I gotta go with Beatles. The first CD I ever owned was Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band!
Sweet or Savory? Both! But I’m a southern girl at heart, so my sweet tooth is real.
Ocean or mountains? Stop making me choose! I guess the mountains win since I moved here, but nothing makes me feel more peaceful than watching and listening to the ocean.
Sandals, shoes, boots, socks or barefoot? Boots, preferably with a high heel
Who is the most famous person you have met? Chris Tucker
Do you have any guilty pleasures? Romance novels
If you could only have one drink for the rest of your life, what would it be? Chai
What are you most excited for at Project Angel Heart? To work with our incredible team of staff and volunteers to figure out how we can serve everyone who needs us one day
What else would you like volunteers to know about you? I had a friend who was a client several years ago and the meals he received from Project Angel Heart made a huge difference for him, allowing him to stay in his own apartment longer than would otherwise have been possible. This not only helped him, but also made all of us who loved him feel better. So, please know that your support impacts many people in addition to our clients and I have been grateful for you for years before I ever got the chance to meet any of you!
